HOUSTON — A veteran Houston firefighter was arrested after police said they found him driving a stolen rental car. But that is not all what they found him with.
According to the Houston Police Department, John Allen Smith, 37, was driving a stolen car from Enterprise Rent-a-Car. Officials had been looking for it since last year. Smith was pulled over on the 4200 block of Yellowstone Boulevard after officers noticed something suspicious about the car he was driving.
While searching inside the stolen vehicle, officers found a stack of identification cards that didn’t belong to Smith. Long-time neighbors were shocked to hear the news of Smith’s arrest. “He’s not that type of person. I’ve never known him to do anything out of line like that. It’s unbelievable. I wouldn’t believe that he would do anything like that,” Charrod Matthews, a neighbor, said.
