READING, Pa. — A thief stole thousands of dollars of equipment from a fire truck over the weekend.
Reading Eagle reported that the thief broke into a service center, where the fire truck was awaiting repairs, and took several items off the truck. Fire Chief William I. Stoudt said the thief stole between $5,000 and $10,000 worth of equipment, including power saws, spotlights, axes and other items.
“Police are investigating and we are still assembling a list of equipment missing,” Stoudt said.
The truck was at the service center for about a week for axle repairs, Stoudt said.
Mayor Wally Scott said the theft occurred on the truck that was scheduled to carry Santa Claus through town during city’s annual holiday parade.
