MCHENRY COUNTY, Ill. — An Illinois firefighter was transported to the hospital after a crash between an ambulance and snowplow truck on Sunday.
The Marengo Fire Protection District ambulance was responding to a call with its lights and sirens activated when it collided with the rear bumper of the snowplow truck at an intersection, then went off into a snow embankment, according to a report by the Lake & McHenry County Scanner.
The driver of the ambulance had yielded at the intersection and had not seen any other vehicles before proceeding, according to McHenry County Sheriff Spokeswoman Sgt. Aimee Knop. The truck driver did not have a stop sign and said he did not see the ambulance before continuing through the intersection.
Knop said a building standing at a corner of the intersection may have impeded the drivers’ visibility, and added that it was snowing when the crash occurred.
A firefighter who was in the passenger’s seat of the ambulance was transported to the hospital as a precaution, officials said. The ambulance sustained frontal damage due to the collision and impact with the snow embankment.
No citations were issued to either driver involved.
