NEW YORK — Three FDNY firefighters were hospitalized after two large shop awning signs collapsed on them during a fire in Manhattan.
Intense video footage shows the firefighters standing by a burnt-out storefront on St. Nicholas Avenue in Washington Heights on June 29 when the metal awnings collapsed, the New York Post reported.
On social media, the department stated that after the fire had been mostly extinguished, a facade collapsed, injuring three firefighters. They were treated by EMS and transported to a local hospital.
“It just goes to show you how dangerous this job can be. Here’s the fire is largely out and we have a collapse that could have seriously hurt our firefighters,” Deputy Assistant Chief John Sarrocco stated.
