SOLON, Ohio — Dashboard camera video shows a Solon police cruiser burning after it suddenly caught fire Monday outside Orchard Middle School.

Authorities are still trying to determine why the police cruiser caught fire just before 8:45 a.m., but do not suspect any criminal activity, acting Solon police Chief Joseph Alestock said in a news release.

The cruiser was unoccupied at the time, and no one was hurt in the incident, Alestock.

The video released Monday afternoon shows flames emanating from the police cruiser, which was parked outside the middle school.

The fire caused ammunition stored inside the cruiser to explode, so students were moved into the middle school’s gymnasium as a precaution, police said.

An officer was at the school for a routine security patrol when the cruiser caught fire. The cruiser was locked and not running at the time, Alestock said.

Solon firefighters arrived a short time later to extinguish the fire. The damage was limited to the cruiser’s interior, Alestock said.
