INGRAM, Pa. — The borough of Ingram is considering outsourcing its fire protection to the City of Pittsburgh’s fire bureau.
It is unclear if that means the Ingram Volunteer Fire Department would disband. “I think it’s a big blow to the community,” Fire Chief Don Browning said. “We’re very involved in the community. We do a lot of things.” Browning said the Ingram department does more than fight fires. He cited parades and community celebrations.
“We also do a candy cane detail, which, no matter what, we’ll be out there for the kids of our community,” Browning said. “And we’re local people. I was born and raised in Ingram. I’m a 28-year veteran. My father was an almost 44-year veteran of the Ingram Volunteer Fire Department.”
