CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — Cartersville Firefighter Josh Pruitt, 25, is set to undertake a 274 mile journey, on foot, to honor and financially support the families of fallen firefighters.
His cause: The Georgia Fallen Firefighters Foundation. A statewide non-profit that provides financial and emotional support when a firefighter is lost during the course of service. For his part, Pruitt plans to hike the ‘Long Trail’ of Vermont. An avid outdoorsman, Pruitt says this physical effort will demonstrate service, reflection and awareness of his cause.
His goal is to raise $10,000 for a formal uniform loaner program. This unique program will allow smaller, often all-volunteer departments to have “Class-A” or formal dress uniforms to wear during services to honor fallen comrades. The expensive uniforms are often a luxury most smaller departments simply can not afford.
