CLEVELAND — A firefighter was burned while battling a fatal house fire Wednesday morning.
Fox8.com reported that firefighters, with the Cleveland Fire Department, were called to the fire around 4 a.m. and pulled Richard Waddell, 44, from the home. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died. Crews also pulled a dog from the home. They tried to resuscitate the dog at the scene, but were unsuccessful.
One firefighter was burned on the neck and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Fire officials said high winds hampered firefighting efforts. Investigators said the fire may have been started when Waddell fell asleep while cooking.
