HOUSTON — A Houston firefighter was injured after he fell out of a window while battling an apartment fire Friday.
The Houston Chronicle reported the firefighter was searching a second-floor apartment for flames when he mistook a window with the glass broken out for a door and stepped through it. He quickly realized his mistake and tried to grab onto the edge of the window frame but was unable to catch himself.
Jay Evans, a spokesman for the Houston Fire Department, said the firefighter fell about 10 feet and landed in the dirt below. The firefighter complained of back pain and was taken to the hospital. Evans said he is expected to recover.
No other injuries were reported.
