N.C. FFs injured in crash while responding to call

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Two firefighters were among the three people injured in a crash involving a fire engine in Gaston County, N.C., on June 7, 2023.

Lucia Bend firefighters were responding to a call when their fire engine was involved in a crash near the intersection of Horseshoe Bend Beach Road and North Carolina 16, WCNC reported.

The Lucia Bend Fire Department posted on Facebook that the crew was responding to a call, with lights and siren activated, and stopped at the intersection to wait for other vehicles before proceeding.

Two vehicles collided and then struck the Lucia Bend fire engine. After the crash, the firefighters assessed the other drivers. The firefighters called for additional assistance and the injured were eventually transported to a hospital where they were treated and released.

WSOC reported that the North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
