OCEANSIDE, Calif. — A firefighter fended off a knife attack by a suspected arsonist while responding to a house fire.
The Los Angeles Times reported that a firefighter crew was searching the home for the source of the smoke when police saw someone run inside the house, according to Oceanside Fire Battalion Chief Jessamyn Specht.
While searching a bedroom of the home, a firefighter was confronted by a man who jumped out and swung a large knife at him.
The firefighter pushed the man against the wall and avoided injury.
Police Lt. Kedrick Sadler said the man ripped apart a dresser and began throwing pieces of it at the officers who were trying to arrest him. A TASER was used on the man, but it wasn’t until a police dog was used that they were able to take him into custody.
