KEENE, N.H. A Keene fire captain found guilty of a prostitution charge earlier this month has submitted his resignation.

Capt. Robert J. DiLuzio Jr., 44, resigned Wednesday, according to a news release from the office of City Manager Medard K. Kopczynski. The resignation was effective immediately.

According to court documents, DiLuzio used a city-owned cellphone to solicit two people he thought were prostitutes — including one who was an undercover Keene police officer — tried to meet one of the women while on duty, and used a city fire vehicle in an attempt to find the other.

DiLuzio pleaded guilty Sept. 9 to a misdemeanor charge of prostitution after an investigation by the Keene Police Department. The city’s fire department also initiated a concurrent investigation, according to the news release.

DiLuzio has been a captain on the Keene Fire Department since 2013; before that he served as a lieutenant. He is also an employee of his family’s business, Keene-based DiLuzio Ambulance Service.

According to a police affidavit in the case, DiLuzio was suspended from fire department work during the investigation.

“Employees of the City of Keene, holding the public trust, are expected to exhibit, and are held, to the highest ethical and moral standards,” the news release said.

“The investigation was conducted in a manner to ensure that such standards were adhered to, while providing the process to which each employee is entitled.”
