LANSING, Mich. — Firefighters from across the state of Michigan rallied yesterday to encourage state legislature to fund an account set up to help firefighters who have been diagnosed with cancer.
WXYZ.com reported the issue originally arose when Michigan lawmakers passed a law to help firefighters pay for cancer treatment but neglected to allocate any funds for the program.
On Tuesday, lawmakers remedied the situation by promising to approve $1 million for the supplemental cancer fund this year and $3 million for next year.
