EDMONTON, Alberta — Five firefighters were transported to a hospital as a precaution after battling a cement plant blaze Tuesday.
Lehigh Hanson Health and Safety Director Gerry Sanderson told the Edmonton Journal that the fire crew was on the roof of the silo dousing it with water when one firefighter injury was reported.
“What I’m told is there’s a potential he inhaled some carbon dioxide or some hazardous gas and became light-headed. They received oxygen on scene,” Sanderson told Globalnews.
The firefighters were released Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.
Over 50 firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
