FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department shared a bystander’s video capturing a fiery explosion when a firefighter opened a building door, in what the department called a “utility emergency.”

Firefighters responded to the 3800 block of South George Mason Drive in Bailey’s Crossroads on Nov. 7, WUSA9 reported.

The video captured the moment flames enveloped the firefighter.

According to Dominion Energy, the underground wires leading to the building had a fault issue, which initiated the fire that spread upward toward the structure. The explosion occurred when the firefighter opened the door, allowing a sudden influx of oxygen.

The fire department stated that the firefighter was okay and that an investigation was underway.
