This week, hosts Lt. Rom Duckworth and Chief Rob Wylie discuss the policy in Reno, Nev. that allows firefighters to show up to work with drugs and alcohol in their system.
“You don’t have a right to come in under the potential influence of those agents when you come to work,” Chief Wylie said. “We’re held to a higher standard than the general public and the job we’re doing is literally life and death. To compromise that is inexcusable.”
They also talk about what happens in those critical first few moments on arrival at a motor vehicle accident in their frontline tactical tips segment. They interview Kyle David Bates, founder and chairman of The First Few Moments, Inc., which consists of interactive lectures, interactive learning sessions and full-scale evolutions with simulation.
Their leadership lessons segment explains why it’s important to have an open line of communication where fire personnel have a place to go if they suspect one of their brothers or sisters is having a problem.
