LAKE LURE, N.C. — North Carolina residents thanked firefighters from 24 different states in a viral video for battling and protecting them from a vicious wildfire.

The video, “Thank You to 1,000 Firefighters - Party Rock Fire” is an eight-minute feature that thanks firefighters for protecting residents of Lake Lure and Chimney Rock Village.

“Knowing what we could have lost and what they preserved created in us an even deeper sense of gratitude,” Lake Lure Mayor Bob Keith told WLOS. “And so I think this ‘thank you’ video reflects what we wanted to convey to the firefighters and the world.”

The wildfire burned for over 25 days, spanned over 7,000 acres and threatened more than 1,200 homes. Hundreds of firefighters were deployed to battle the fire.

“We would like to express our gratitude to the community for supporting the responders and entrusting us to contain the fire,” Link Smith, the incident commander of the Oregon Forestry Service, said. “It takes a team to fight a fire and all those who helped are part of that team.”
