SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. — A firefighter crew left a kind note and the family’s tattered flag on the porch of a home they saved.
FOX40 reported that firefighters from Engine 3802A saved Kerri Spellman’s home, but were unable to save the edge of her property, resulting in her American flag being burned.
The crew respectfully folded the flag and left it on Spellman’s porch with a note.
“Saw the sticker on your truck, forever a member of the family,” the note read. “Saved the house but not this flag. Thank you for flying old Glory.”
“We weren’t sure if we would come home to a home,” Spellman said in a Facebook post about the act of kindness.” We love our flag. Our love and respect those that sacrifice for others. To 3802A, whoever you are, thank you.”
