LOWBER, Pa. — A 29-year-old Rillton man was charged this morning with driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with the Feb. 22 traffic accident that killed the manager of the Rostraver West Newton emergency services ambulance.

Matthew Poston was arraigned on multiple criminal charges filed by state police including homicide by vehicle, homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, reckless driving, driving at an unsafe speed and failing to remain at the scene of an accident in connection with the crash that killed Gary L. Moore Jr., 33, of Yukon.

State police allege that Poston was the driver of a southbound 2012 Dodge Ram truck that crashed at 3:03 a.m. near the Dear Creek intersection with Lowber Road.

Authorities said Moore, the fomer chief and president of the Yukon fire department, was a passenger in Poston’s vehicle that slid off the road and hit a utility pole.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Trooper Joseph Lauricia, Poston and Moore were drinking before the crash for 2 hours and 45 minutes at Lowber Firemen’s Club.

Witnesses said that Poston drank five bottles of beer and two regular shots of tequila.

Poston, a firefighter with the Hutchinson Fire Department, was released on $50,000 signature bond.

The bartender at the club told the trooper that Poston offered to drive Moore home because Moore was going to walk and it was cold and icy outside.

Moore, whose nickname was “Tiger,” had been a member of the Yukon Fire Department for about 20 years.
