JEFFERSON TWP., Penn. — Cory Lutska of Grindstone, was traveling northbound on Route 201 Friday afternoon when he witnessed a car collide with a tractor-trailer truck.
“I didn’t believe it was happening,” he said. “It was so quick.”
Albert Battaglini, 31, of Connellsville, was taken to Uniontown Hospital via Fayette EMS after his 1996 Subaru struck a tractor-trailer truck while traveling southbound on Route 201 around 4:30 p.m. in Jefferson Township.
Police said Battaglini suffered minor injuries in the accident.
Lutska said he saw the driver of the tractor-trailer, Frank Novobilsky, 43, of Perryopolis, veer off to the side of the road to avoid Battaglini, whose car traveling close to the yellow line.
Battaglini’s car hit the corner of the trailer, spun and rolled over before coming to a stop in the middle of the roadway, Lutska said.
Belle Vernon state police said it’s too early to tell if speed was a factor.
James Eley, fire chief for Fayette City Volunteer Fire Department said Battaglini had to be extricated from the car.
Eley said Novobilsky was reportedly uninjured, but two of his tires of his 2006 Peterbilt truck were damaged.
Volunteer firefighters from Perry Township and Grindstone also responded to the scene, as well as Rostraver EMS.
