CONSTITUCION, Chile — A fourth firefighter was killed Wednesday while helping a family evacuate from burning wildfires in central Chile.
Three other firefighters were killed while battling the wildfire over the past week. In addition, three other firefighters suffered injuries while battling the fires.
At least 4,000 people have been evacuated from their homes as the wildfires burned through 730 square miles, reported AFP.
Chilean President Michelle Bachelet ordered additional funding to be allocated to battling the wildfires. She said it is the country’s worst fire in history.
The United States has offered $100,000 to aid the firefighting efforts.
