UPPER DARBY, Pa. — A fire chief who died in the line of duty was honored with a road dedicated to him.
Delcon News Network reported that a portion of a road was honorably named The Deputy Fire Chief Michael P. Morgan Memorial Highway to honor the 30-year fire service veteran who died when he fell ill after responding to two fire calls in 2016.
“We have limited places where we can honor people,” state Rep. Jamie Santora said. “Doing an honorary road naming on a state road is significant. It’s not temporary, it’ll be there forever. It will allow his name to be prominently displayed in an area where he gave back to his community.”
An unveiling ceremony was held, with Morgan’s family, along with firefighters from Morgan’s department and neighboring departments, township officials and community members in attendance.
Morgan was also honored in September 2016 when his name was added to the Drexel Hill Middle School Heroes Courtyard.
