LOS ANGELES — A funeral was held for a firefighter who died during a training exercise.
Los Angeles Times reported that Los Angeles firefighter Kelly Wong, 29, was remembered with a celebration of life ceremony. He died early June from injuries he suffered after falling from an aerial ladder.
Several streets were closed downtown as the funeral procession took place, with a fire truck bearing Wong’s casket leading the way. An honor guard and mourners followed.
Hundreds of first responders from around the U.S. came to pay their respects. Wong was a firefighter with LAFD for two years.
“He was a hero to our city, a hero for this department, a hero for his family,” Mayor Eric Garcetti said.
Wong is survived by his wife, Danielle and infant son, Colton.
