BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — A lawsuit filed by the Hudson Fire Department seeks reimbursement of more than $158,000 in damages the agency sustained to its vehicles in a 2013 crash that killed a volunteer firefighter.

Named in the lawsuit is Mansur Shakirov, driver of a semitrailer truck that struck Chris Brown on March 5, 2013, as he and other first responders were on Interstate 39 south of Hudson on an emergency call. He is serving four years on reckless homicide charges related to his failure to move into the right lane to avoid the emergency scene.

Brown also worked as a full-time Bloomington firefighter.

The fire department includes Move It Transport Inc., Auto Trans Experts Inc., and Auto Transportation Experts Inc., firms that allegedly employed Shakirov, in its lawsuit.

Hudson is seeking $158,610 for damages to vehicles struck in the crash.

Still pending is a separate lawsuit filed by Amie Brown, widow of Brown, against a number of trucking companies allegedly connected with Shakirov’s transportation of vehicles.
