CHICAGO — An early morning fire on the South Side spread to a second building and landed two firefighters in the hospital, authorities said.
The blaze broke out about 2:30 a.m. in the 7000 block of South Rhodes Avenue and quickly spread to a second residential building.
One firefighter experienced shortness of breath and was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in fair-to-serious condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department. A second firefighter was also taken to the University of Chicago Hospital after an ankle injury.
