ATLANTA — Two Atlanta firefighters proved that their work is never done.

Sgt. Chris Batson and Sgt. Marcus Van Dorn had just finished a 24-hour shift and were on their way home, when they say they saw smoke coming from a house on Moreland Avenue. They called the fire department, but, without any gear on, took matters into their own hands and went inside. Once inside, they found a woman in a back room.

“To go into that room you had to duck down under fire that was in the wall and the header of the doorway,” Batson said. He said the woman was packing a suitcase and seemed disoriented. They told her she had to get out now.
