ATLANTA — At least one witness said arson was responsible for an early Thursday morning fire at the old Atlanta YMCA. The two-alarm fire started around 1:15 a.m. at the facility located at 22 Jesse Hill Drive NE. Firefighters said the building, once housing the YMCA, now serves as transitional housing.

Firefighters contained the flames to a fourth-floor room. Several people were trapped, but firefighters brought them to safety using the fire escapes.

One resident told CBS Atlanta the fire was purposely set in a lover’s spat.
