BIG BEAR, Calif. — Dramatic new details have emerged today about the moment police smashed their way into the mountain cabin where Christopher Dorner made his last stand. According to one report, furious SWAT officers shouted ‘burn that f****** house down!’ before the cabin went up in flames.
Aerial photos show the small building burned to the ground after it caught fire following a raging gun battle in which the fugitive ex-LAPD cop shot dead one sheriff’s deputy and gravely wounded another in the mountains of San Bernardino National Forest on Tuesday. The standoff ended after 5pm local time when the cabin went up in flames after deputies began blasting tear gas canisters through the windows. A single gunshot was heard coming from the cabin before the structure was fully engulfed by the blaze.
Authorities announced on Wednesday that they believe Dorner is dead. A charred body was found in the remote cabin where he barricaded himself and held officers at bay for about two hours. The cabin caught fire and burned to the ground in the midst of the standoff.
