LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Sitting by the fire has become a staple for many over the holidays, but before lighting the logs remember to take safety measures.

Little Rock Fire Detectives combed through a burned home on Janwood Drive; trying to find the origin of the fire. “It looks like the worst damage is in and around the fireplace and the flue,” said Little Rock Fire Captain, Randy Hickmon. Little remains from the early morning fire. Hickmon said the blaze began after 4:30 a.m. and all the residents escaped safely because smoke detectors alerted them.

Hickmon said calls related to heating are beginning to increase, and those using their fireplaces should take preventative steps. “In the next few days it’s going to be really cold at night and people are going to be using those...just make sure you have somebody come in and check your A/C and heating units as well as your fireplace,” said Hickmon.
