AKRON, Ohio — An Ohio man is grateful to a firefighter who saved his dog from a destructive house fire.
Richard Beretics lost everything Thursday morning when a fire tore through his home, according to the Beacon Journal.
A firefighter was able to locate Beretics’ young Rottweiler, Cassie, and brought her to safety from the home.
“It was just like you see on TV,” Beretics said. “The firefighter walked through all this smoke carrying Cassie, just like he was a hero. To me, he is a hero.”
The firefighter used a breathing apparatus to treat Cassie for minor smoke inhalation; the dog is expected to survive.
Beretics says he suspects an electrical short may have trigged the blaze.
Although a hero to him, Beretics said he was unable to learn the firefighter’s name who saved Cassie.
