BANKS, Ore. — A Banks volunteer firefighter is hospitalized after falling from a roof during an incident in Timber on Wednesday, Dec. 4, the district said.

About 6:30 p.m., firefighters responded to the report of a house fire in the 26000 block of Northwest Timber Road, which is located in the Coast Range and roughly 15 miles west of the Banks city limits. When firefighters arrived, they found the chimney was on fire, or there was a problem with it, said Banks Fire District 13 Chief Brian Coussens.

During the call, the injured firefighter used a ladder to climb to the roof, which appears to have been slick with ice, Coussens said. The fire district thinks the firefighter slipped on the ice and fell, landing in the yard of the residence. “We don’t know exactly what happened,” Coussens said, adding that he hasn’t had an opportunity to talk with the firefighter about the incident.
