CHEVERLY, Md. — One woman died and a firefighter was injured in an Easter morning fire at a Prince George’s County home that was filled with hoarded items, officials said.
County fire personnel responded at about 8 a.m. Sunday to a fire at a two-story home in the 2400 block of 59th Place in Cheverly. After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters found a woman in her 60s dead at the top of the stairs inside the home.
A firefighter also suffered second-degree burns to his hands, according to fire Chief Marc Bashoor. Fire officials said the house was filled with hoarded materials that may have contributed to the fire, in addition to making it difficult for firefighters to get into the house.
