Firefighters rescue 3 children from roof of burning duplex

None of the children were injured; firefighters also rescued a dog from the residence

MADISON, Wis. — Firefighters rescued three children from the roof of their burning duplex on Wednesday night, the Madison Fire Department reported.

Fire crews called to 914 Chapel Hill Road about 7:15 p.m. found three children on the garage roof screaming, heavy smoke billowing from the duplex and flames visible from the back of the structure, according to a fire department news release.

Firefighters immediately put a ladder to the roof and safely helped the children to the ground, and also rescued a dog from the home, the release said. The children had been alerted by smoke detectors, the release said.
