FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — The family of a Flagler County Fire Rescue captain was displaced by a fire that gutted their home Tuesday morning.

Jamey Burnsed was not home when the blaze began about 9:40 a.m. at his family’s manufactured home at 6611 Fruit Ave. His wife, son, two daughters, and dog were inside the residence and all managed to escape unharmed.

Call records indicate the fire began in one of the bedrooms and quickly filled the remainder of the home with heavy smoke. Fire crews from Palm Coast, Flagler Beach and Bunnell fire departments were on hand to assist county firefighters in battling the blaze. They were able to subdue it by 10:05 a.m., records show.

According to Flagler County Fire Chief Don Petito, the fire destroyed about half of the home, leaving many of the items inside in ruins. There has not yet been a positive determination regarding what sparked the fire. Petito said state fire marshals are investigating to determine the exact cause.

“We were out there helping them out and making sure (Burnsed) had a place to stay, something to eat, and now we’re working on getting the kids some clothes,” Petito said Tuesday afternoon.

Petito said Burnsed has nearby family members as well as a traveling trailer in which he plans to reside.

Burnsed has been a fire captain for Flagler County Fire Rescue since 2009.

This is not the first family tragedy he has endured in recent years. His 19-year-old son, Lane, was killed in a July 2012 crash on Interstate 95 that left one other teen dead and injured two others. Louis Nicholas Prinzo IV of Ormond Beach was convicted of driving under the influence of marijuana as well as painkiller and anti-anxiety medications at the time.

Last week marked the two-year anniversary of when a judge sentenced Prinzo to 16 years in prison.
