BLADEN COUNTY, N.C. — A N.C. fire captain died Tuesday; he fell ill while responding to a fire the previous day.
Capt. David Tatum of the White Oak Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire on Monday; he reported not feeling well and went home, according to the North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
After Capt. Tatum returned home, he later collapsed. He was transported to the hospital, then transferred to another and put on life support.
He was pronounced dead at around 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
