JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — A volunteer firefighter was injured in a house fire that leveled a two-story home on Tuesday.
A call came in at approximately 3:25 p.m. about a house fire at 160 Whaley Field Road in Jacksonville, according to the Half Moon Volunteer Fire Department Chief Philip Dallas.
The firefighters arrived to heavy fire and firefighters were putting out hot spots until almost 6 p.m., Dallas said.
“We’ve got the fire pretty much knocked down,” Dallas said.
The home was a two-story residence and the second floor collapsed onto the first floor, Dallas said. The home has been ruled a total loss.
One person was taken to Onslow Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries but their status is unknown, he said.
Dallas confirmed the home belonged to Half Moon volunteer fire captain Robert Montcrieff.
The cause of the fire was unknown at deadline but an investigation has begun, Dallas said. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
“Right now my focus is on the firefighter and his family,” he added.
Dallas said the department brought in additional units to help put the fire out, including Rhodestown Volunteer Fire Department, Pumpkin Center Volunteer Fire Department, Piney Green Volunteer Fire Department, Hubert Volunteer Fire Department, Richlands Fire Department and Hargett’s Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department.
