JESSUP, Pa. — Borough Fire Chief Steve Pitoniak vowed he would not put his firefighters at risk after a fourth flare-up from the Scranton Cooperage blaze, which more than 200 people battled almost 10 weeks ago.
The Jessup fire chief doesn’t know what caused Tuesday’s flare-up at the remnants of the Mid Valley Drive facility. Neither does the state Department of Environmental Protection.
He expressed anger the DEP has not told him about all the materials stored on the site. “Until we know what’s going on, we’re not sending people in there,” he said.
