WESTON, Mass. — A retired volunteer firefighter was killed in a fire at his home Thursday night.
WCVB reported that the house was fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived at retired firefighter Ross Giamo’s home.
Fire Chief David Soar said it’s the first fatal fire in the town in about 20 years, according to the report.
“There wasn’t anything the guys could do when they got here. They tried to make an interior attack, and they got pushed back by the fire. They knock the fire down to get inside, and that’s when we discovered the body,” Chief Soar said.
Firefighter Giamo was found dead near the front door of the home, which was a converted garage, according to the report.
“He was a good guy. He had a great sense of humor,” Chief Soar said of Giamo. “There were a lot of guys there last night who knew him. It’s a sad day.”
The cause of the fire was electrical in nature, Chief Soar said.
