HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A firefighter was injured while he battled a blaze Wednesday night at a house in northwest Harris County.
The fire broke out about 10:30 p.m. at the single-story home on Yaupon Mist Drive near Greenhouse, said Mike Shinn, a spokesman for the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department.
Shinn said the firefighter had smoke inhalation. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was evaluated. His condition was not released.
No other injuries were reported.
A man and his grandchild were in the home at the time of the fire. The man spotted the fire and grabbed his grandchild, and they rushed outside to safety.
When firefighters arrived they saw heavy flames and smoke on the roof of a garage at the home. The flames spread to the house. A sports utility vehicle parked in the driveway also burned. Firefighters later gained an upper hand on the flames and extinguished the blaze
Investigators are trying to determine what sparked the fire.
