EL DORADO SPRINGS, Mo. — Two volunteer firefighters are recovering in a hospital after being injured while battling a trash trailer fire. Another firefighter was also treated and later released.

KY3.com reported that the Eldorado Springs (Mo.) Fire Department was called to a fire in a trash trailer at the Waste Corporation of America solid waste transfer station Monday morning.

Firefighters fought the fire for about 30 minutes. Some firefighters were on top of it, trying to put the fire out. One of the support legs on the trailer started to collapse and the fire chief ordered the firefighters to get off. Before they could, it toppled over, throwing three firefighters to the ground, according to the report.

Helicopter ambulances took two of them, firefighters Craig Carpenter and Austin Taylor, to a hospital, where they remained on Tuesday with serious but not life-threatening injuries from the impact of the fall. A ground ambulance took firefighter Bryan Cloyd to a hospital, where he was treated and later released.

Carpenter has been a volunteer firefighter since 1998, Taylor since 2013 and Cloyd since 2006.
