ONTARIO, Canada — Mayor Joe Baptista often sings the praises of his township’s volunteer firefighters but he now has even more reasons to be proud of them.
They saved his house last month. The mayor of Leeds and the Thousand Islands said quick response by his township’s volunteers and those from the nearby Township of the Front of Younge limited the damage caused by a kitchen grease fire and a brush fire at his home north of Escott.
“It really gives you an appreciation of our emergency services and what they do,” Baptista said.
