DES MOINES, Iowa — It’s the latest in a volley of public criticism from Des Moines’ local firefighters union.

A “Save Des Moines Fire Department” website appeared Monday morning, with pointed attacks at Des Moines Fire Chief John TeKippe. The site includes a video and a black-and-white photo series of firefighters holding signs with phrases like “No integrity,” “No safety” and “No leadership.”

Des Moines Local 4 launched the site with the goal of getting a new chief for the fire department, according to Joe Van Haalen, president of the union. “We hope for new leadership,” he said Monday. “More than anything this just sends the message that the majority of the firefighters in Des Moines feel like the leadership is extremely lacking in Chief TeKippe.”
