City to settle gender inequality case brought by 3 female firefighters

The city will also provide adequate access to female uniforms and turnout gear

LONG BEACH, Calif. — An agreement settling gender equality lawsuits brought by three female Long Beach firefighters will be approved tonight when the City Council meets.

Long Beach would finish gender privacy renovations to fire stations by Dec. 31, 2015 under the settlement, which was accepted by council members in closed session on July 16, a memorandum said.

The city will also provide adequate access to female uniforms and turnout gear, and pay attorney’s fees of $48,859.
