NEW LONDON, Conn. — The outgoing New London (Conn.) Mayor Daryl Finizio is seeking to change hiring practices for firefighters.
WFSB reported that the board is considering setting aside the current hiring policy to allow the mayor to hire a firefighter whose name doesn’t appear on any current eligibility list.
Officials said it is an effort to enhance diversification of the fire department.
The unnamed recruit would still have to pass a qualifying examination.
The board meets at 7 p.m. on Wednesday to discuss the matter.
