WEST CARTHAGE, N.Y. — The village of West Carthage and the town of Champion have been served with a court summons on behalf of the Champion Volunteer Fire Company Inc., said Jennifer Waite, the fire company’s spokeswoman.

The department is suing the municipalities for breach of contract. A court date of 9:30 a.m. June 11 has been set in state Supreme Court, 317 Washington St., Watertown. Judge James P. McClusky is scheduled to hear the case.

“We feel the town board inappropriately made this decision,” Mrs. Waite said. “On behalf of the residents, we are going to fight back. We hope the judge will agree with us and we will get our contract back.”
