BELFAST, Ireland — Two firefighters were injured when they tried to put out a car fire in the New Lodge area of north Belfast earlier this month
“It was a particularly normal Friday night, when we arrived there was nothing that made us think it was a riot situation. Two guys approached us out of the shadows, shouting, screaming, swearing, telling us not to put the fire out,” firefighter Noel McKee said.
He described how they were first threatened and then attacked “when our backs were turned.” A female colleague was injured after being hit by a lump of masonry, and McKee was hurt after being attacked with what is believed to be a baseball bat.
