LAWRENCE, Mass. — Two Lawrence firefighters were injured early Saturday morning when their motorcycles crashed in Tyngsborough.
A third man, also operating a motorcycle, was hurt as well.
“Two of our firefighters were hurt,” Mayor Daniel Rivera said. Both he and acting fire Chief John Marsh declined to give their names.
Rivera said that while the two firefighters suffered serious injuries, they are expected to recover completely. Three motorcycles crashed on Lakeview Avenue at 2:05 a.m., according to Tyngsborough police Chief Richard Howe.
The operators were identified as Matthew Peek, 29, of Haverhill; Dakotah Payne, 22, of Fitchburg; and Michael Espinola, 32, of Tyngsborough. Two of the men were airlifted to a hospital and are now reported to be in stable condition, Howe said.
The third motorcyclist is due to be released from the hospital, the chief said.
“The accident and its cause are still under investigation. That investigation will not be completed until we receive the accident reconstruction report from the State Police Accident Reconstruction Team which was called to the scene,” Howe said.
Espinola is a Lawrence firefighter, according to Linkedin.com. Twitter identifies Peek as a Lawrence firefighter.
Peek was appointed to the Fire Department in September 2011.
