LA QUINTA, Calif. — La Quinta City Council is expected to vote Tuesday on whether to name Fire Station 32 for Christopher Douglas, who was killed two years ago while on duty.

Douglas, 41, had served eight of his nine years with Cal Fire/Riverside County at the La Quinta station, on Avenue 52. The city contracts with Riverside County for fire service.

Douglas, a fire apparatus engineer and paramedic, was struck by a passing pickup as he stood on the shoulder of the eastbound Interstate 10 on-ramp at Monterey Avenue on July 5, 2013. His crew was responding to a crash on I-10 near Washington Street and he had pulled the engine over so they could put on their safety gear, the California Highway Patrol reported.
