NEAR LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — The Prairie Township Fire Protection District got a call about a dog that a fell through the ice on a lake near Lee’s Summit.
“When we first got there the dog had his paws up on the ice and just his head was above water, " said firefighter Johnnie Pickard.
Pickard was tasked with suiting up to try and save the dog, Karma. When Pickard got to the lake he crawled onto the ice to try to save Karma. “I was saying a little bit of prayer hoping I was going to have enough strength to lift that wet dog up out of the water onto the ice. But as I seen the ice start to break, things are about to get cold.”
