FORT WORTH, Texas — Three firefighters were injured in a chain-reaction wreck on Interstate 35W early Monday that also involved a patrol car, authorities said.

The firefighters’ injuries were not considered life-threatening. They were taken to a local hospital where they were treated and released shortly after the crash.

The patrol car was unoccupied at the time of the wreck.

The accident was reported shortly before 4 a.m. Monday on Interstate 35W at Golden Triangle Boulevard in far north Fort Worth.

Firefighters and police had responded to a separate traffic accident at the scene involving two cars, and a fire truck was attempting to clear the scene, fire officials said Monday.

A pickup slammed into the unoccupied patrol car, which was then shoved into the fire truck, said fire Battalion Chief Richard Harrison in a news release.

The pickup ended on its side and the driver was treated at the scene.

MedStar took the three firefighters to a local hospital.

Police continued to investigate.
